SC1.1 (SC1.1) English Nature Science No 1 Freshwater acidification of SSSIs in Great Britain - Overview
(English Nature Science No .1) 6.00 post free
Dr Carrie Rimes 1992
These reports describe a study which collated information on freshwater acidification on SSSIs in acid sensitive areas of Britain, assessed the acidification status of these water bodies and related this to the conservation interest of the sites. Of the 190 SSSIs studied, 141 sites with a combined area of 433,000 ha were found to have acidified. North Wales was most severely affected, with other badly affected areas being mid-Wales, south-west and north-east Scotland and north-west England.

SC1.10 (SC1.10) English Nature Science No 10 Rebuilding the English countryside: habitat fragmentation and wildlife corridors as issues in practical conservation
(English Nature Science No .10) 4.00 post free
1995
Habitat fragmentation has been an important cause of species decline in the English countryside. In future land use policies and practices should be designed to make it easier for our wild plants and animals to thrive in and move through the landscape. Wildlife corridors, stepping stone patches of semi-natural vegetation and just improving the management of the habitats that exist already all have a place in rebuilding the English countryside, to enhance the wildlife legacy that we pass on to the twenty - first century. This report looks at recent research in this area and what ideas can be applied directly to nature conservation work on a day to day basis.
