Grant Schemes
Other Sources of Grant-Aid
Natural England grants are usually for a maximum of 50% of the project costs, and you will need to fund the remainder. If you do not have this money you will need to find more sponsorship or grant-aid. In exceptional circumstances Natural England will cost volunteer man-hours as part of its grant, but this is not the normal rule.
It is important to remember, when applying to Natural England, that we make our grants from public money. If you have already been promised 50% of your project cost by another publicly funded body, you will not be eligible for an Natural England grant. If however, the other body have only promised you 30%, you could still be eligible for an Natural England grant of up to 20% of the cost.
Occasionally, Natural England receives applications for grant aid where projects are more in line with the aims of another organisation. On other occasions only part of your project will further Natural Englands' aims, and therefore, only part of your project will be eligible for funding by us.
Therefore, you may want to apply to other sources for grant-aid. The following bodies are a selection of those which make grants to environmental projects.
Publicly funded bodies
English Heritage
Restoring or maintaining historical landscape features such as veteran trees in sites on their Register of Historic Parklands.
Forestry Commission
Tree planting and some woodland restoration and maintenance schemes. Schemes must cover at least a quarter hectare.
Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
Environmental, landscaping and public access improvement projects on farmland.
Other Bodies
Heritage Lottery Fund
Environmental, educational and public access and recreational activities.
Landfill Operators in Landfill Tax Scheme
Environmental projects within their local area.
