Advice to Applicants
Potential applicants are strongly advised to contact us before completing a grant form. This may well save wasted effort! Natural England staff are always happy to help.
Important points to bear in mind

The maximum grant we give for any project does not exceed 50% of the total cost of the project. Some grants offered may be less than this. Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have sufficient funds to meet the balance of the cost of any project.

Payment of grant is normally made in arrears.

All grants are discretionary.

Grants cannot be made retrospectively, that is for works started prior to an offer of grant.

All our grants come from the public purse. To ensure value for money, successful applicants will be expected to monitor the effectiveness of their projects, and, in most cases, submit a report on their project when claiming grant.

Who can apply
Any organisation or individual can apply if they have a suitable project.
How to apply
Applications need to be submitted on a Natural England application form, together with the relevant supporting information.

There is a separate application form for land purchase grants.
Where to apply
See list of current grants here.
When to apply
Applications can be submitted at any time, but they should be received at least three months before projects are due to start. More time should be allowed for complex or costly projects which may require extensive consultation and site visits.
