The Council of English Nature

Government is committed to making more information available about its programmes and, as our first step towards the start of this process in English Nature, we are pleased to bring you the minutes of a recent Council meeting. We plan to improve and expand the amount of information available over time, which will include papers from previous meetings.

English Nature's Council is the legal entity responsible for the employment of our staff and the delivery of our work. It comprises people from a broad range of backgrounds who are appointed by the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Council Members work with senior staff in English Nature to decide its overall strategy and policies. Our work is expressed in our Corporate Plan to Government and is subsequently published in our three-year work plan. Council meets five times a year, twice at English Nature's National Office in Peterborough and three times elsewhere in the country. The meetings outside Peterborough each include a field trip, providing Members with first-hand experience of some of our conservation programmes.

More information about Council Members and Council processes is available from English Nature's Enquiry Service.
