The two policy statements on the way in which Natural England will operate on the notification and denotification of SSSIs are set out below. These policy statements were made in response to the public consultation undertaken by English Nature in 2005 on the Procedural Guidelines for the removal of an SSSI notification. The responses to that consultation were considered by the Council of English Nature who, in addition to approving the guidelines now used by Natural England staff, also requested that a more concise statement be prepared to inform and demonstrate clarity of how we intend to operate these policies.
