Welcome to Nature for Schools. Here you’ll find:

Teachers

Use your skills and our Primary and Secondary resources to excite pupils’ discovery of the natural world and how we interact with it.

What materials do we provide? Most of the lesson plans are based around activities, with supplementary information for teachers and some detailed case studies. There are suggestions for outdoor activities appropriate for almost all schools to use in their own locality.
What is the target age group? The resource pages support the national curriculum up to 14+, especially at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 2 with some material for Key Stage 1. Some of the KS3 resources could be appropriate for use at GCSE level or above.
Which subjects are covered? The main subjects are Geography, Science and Citizenship, although units in Design & Technology, Art & Design and Religious Education are also covered and some of the lesson plans specifically develop Literacy or Mathematics. All of the resource pages can be used to support Education for Sustainable Development. They include issues that directly or indirectly affect nature conservation as well as some teaching aids for ecology and geology.

The Nature for Schools website link pages connect to a wide range of web resources for children and adult learners, teachers and students. These are arranged under sustainable development by sector (agriculture, tourism, water, coast, etc), biodiversity by habitat and species group, geology and English regions (local resources).

About English Nature
English Nature is the statutory body which champions the conservation and enhancement of the wildlife and natural features of England. We do this by:
advising - Government, other agencies, local authorities, interest groups, business, communities, individuals;
regulating - activities affecting the special nature conservation sites in England;
enabling - helping others to manage land for nature conservation, through grants, projects and information;
enthusing - advocating nature conservation for all and biodiversity as a key test for sustainable development.
In fulfilling our statutory duties we:
establish and manage National Nature Reserves;
notify and safeguard Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs);
advocate to Government departments and others effective policies for nature conservation;
disseminate guidance and advice about nature conservation;
promote research relevant to nature conservation.
Through the Joint Nature Conservation Committee, English Nature works with sister organisations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to advise Government on UK and international conservation issues.
